Qstem
BIO/HEALTHCARE
Qstem is a faculty-founded startup from City University of Hong Kong, developing stem cell-based hair loss treatment technology. The hair loss treatment market is divided into two segments: preventive treatments, which stop further hair loss, and regenerative treatments, which restore damaged scalp and hair follicles to promote hair regrowth. While existing regenerative treatments help improve scalp health and indirectly stimulate hair growth, there are currently no effective solutions—aside from hair transplantation—for severe scalp and follicle damage. However, hair transplantation has its own limitations, including pain and potential side effects from harvesting and transplanting the patient’s own hair. Qstem has developed a proprietary technology that differentiates dermal papilla cells (DPCs) from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for use in hair loss treatment. By leveraging this breakthrough, Qstem aims to provide a more effective and innovative solution for hair regeneration.
